Where She Went is a beautiful and poignant sequel to the 2010 bestseller
If I Stay. This story will be best appreciated and understood by the reader if they have read the prequel. This is a love story, about a relationship that lapsed, why it had to do so, and about coming back together. Music is central to the storyline, both classical and rock music, and meaningful lyrics are sprinkled throughout. Language is graphic and sex is referenced, both in flashback to a time when main characters were teenagers, and in the present day when characters are in their early twenties. Extremely casual sex with groupies is also mentioned. A main character is openly gay and refers to herself as a dyke. Characters smoke quite frequently, though are encouraged to quit. Survivor's guilt is an important element in this story and would make for interesting discussion material. Fame and all that accompanies it --lack of privacy, untrue stories in the tabloids, and relationships that lack authenticity--would also be interesting to discuss. Fans of
If I Stay will thoroughly enjoy revisiting these characters in this incredibly moving and powerful story, and will root for Adam and Mia to work things out and reunite.
