The Story
Where She Went—Book Review

In the three years that have passed since the devastating car accident that killed Mia's family and left her seriously injured, she has rehabilitated, started playing the cello again, and has attended Juilliard. Adam has become an incredibly famous rock star and a major target for the tabloids as half of a celebrity couple. Mia and Adam at one point were inseparable but now they live completely different lives on opposite ends of the country. When they meet up by chance for one night in New York City, old feelings of love, anger, and grief all come to the surface as they remember how important they once were to one another.
The Scoop
Where She Went—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Where She Went is a beautiful and poignant sequel to the 2010 bestseller If I Stay. This story will be best appreciated and understood by the reader if they have read the prequel. This is a love story, about a relationship that lapsed, why it had to do so, and about coming back together. Music is central to the storyline, both classical and rock music, and meaningful lyrics are sprinkled throughout. Language is graphic and sex is referenced, both in flashback to a time when main characters were teenagers, and in the present day when characters are in their early twenties. Extremely casual sex with groupies is also mentioned. A main character is openly gay and refers to herself as a dyke. Characters smoke quite frequently, though are encouraged to quit. Survivor's guilt is an important element in this story and would make for interesting discussion material. Fame and all that accompanies it --lack of privacy, untrue stories in the tabloids, and relationships that lack authenticity--would also be interesting to discuss. Fans of If I Stay will thoroughly enjoy revisiting these characters in this incredibly moving and powerful story, and will root for Adam and Mia to work things out and reunite.
