The Story
After All, You're Callie Boone—Book Review

Callie's life is definitely not dull these days. Her house is rather full, with her two brothers, parents, grandmother, her uncle and his twelve ferrets! She is still reeling from being dumped by her lifelong BFF and now that she has been banned from the community pool over one humiliating incident, she is trying to figure out how to fill her time. A boy named Hoot moves in next door and while he is definitely not her boyfriend, they become great friends. Tryouts for the diving team are rapidly approaching, and Callie has her dad and Hoot helping her train. When a real crisis arises, Callie has lots of things to figure out, but she has faith--after all, she's Callie Boone.
The Scoop
After All, You're Callie Boone—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

This great story for tween girls has a positive message about perseverance, and the importance of friendship and family. After All, You're Callie Boone is a wholesome, quick read which covers friendship troubles, making new friends, managing a platonic boy/girl relationship, and family drama. Callie dreams of being a diver like her father once was, and when she doesn't make the team, she is devastated. With a little pep talk from her parents, she gains perspective and realizes that she was the youngest one trying out, had the least amount of experience, and with hard work, would be able to try out next time. Callie has an extremely close relationship with her father, and when he has a heart attack, she is terrified. This is a tight-knit and supportive family, with three generations living under one roof, and they all come together in a time of crisis. Callie's new friend Hoot shares with her that his parents are divorcing and his feelings of sadness as a result. This story concludes on an upbeat note, with Callie creating a plan to make positive changes in her life.
