The Story
Seeds of Rebellion (Beyonders #2)—Book Review

After escaping Felrook, only to be cast out of Lyrian, Jason finds himself back home, going through the motions of his old life. But Jason is determined to return to Lyrian, not only because he left his friend Rachael behind, but because he has information essential to those trying to defeat the tyrannical wizard emperor Maldor. Once back in Lyrian, this information makes Jason one of the most wanted fugitives on the continent. After finally rejoining Rachael and their friends, Jason and the small group of rebels realize that their only hope for success is to unite the remaining free peoples of Lyrian for one last stand against Maldor. Will these potential allies risk everything and agree to form a rebellion?
The Scoop
Seeds of Rebellion (Beyonders #2)—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Seeds of Rebellion is the second installment in a fantasy adventure series for tweens from the author of the popular Fablehaven series. The story's imaginative premise will capture readers' attention and reward them with lots of action, suspense, and magic. Featured are two very likable, bright, and capable main characters who work well together as a team. They persevere on their quest through many challenges because they believe that they are doing what is best for the land of Lyrian, in spite of the lure of returning to their families back home. Jason and Rachael are extremely loyal to one another. In fact, Jason left the safety of home to return to Lyrian because he was unwilling to abandon Rachael there. Readers will enjoy Jason's lessons in sword fighting and Rachael's lessons in magic, as each become increasingly skilled. The plot involves lots of action and some fantasy violence as the characters battle swamp beasts, grueling terrain, bloodthirsty zombies, and many of Maldor's minions. While the publisher's recommended age is 8-12, the length of the book may be a bit daunting to readers at the younger end of that range, particularly reluctant readers. However, the Beyonders series would make an excellent read-aloud for younger and older adventure-loving readers alike.
