Picking up right where The Reinvention of Bessica Lefter left off, Bessica Lefter Bites Back is as wholesome and entertaining as the first book in the series. Bessica continues to try to fit in at her school, and she has some new friends which definitely helps. Some mean-spirited texting between Bessica and Sylvie causes a new problem between them, though they do patch things up. In her role as school mascot half of the time, Bessica faces some stiff competition as she battles opposing school mascots, and faces some bullying along with it. Bessica gets in trouble with the authorities when she fights back against one particularly mean and competitive mascot. Bessica continues to struggle with her Grandma's new romantic relationship, and once again tries to sabotage it. In the end, things wrap up neatly and some valuable lessons are learned. Tween girls will enjoy following Bessica's story and will be able to relate to her mishaps and mistakes.
