The Story
City of Lost Souls (Mortal Instruments #5)—Book Review

With Jace now liberated from the demon Lilith, things can finally go back to normal between he and Clary. Except that he's gone missing--taken by Sebastian, Clary's demonic brother, who is intent on finishing what their father started; total destruction of the Shadowhunters. To make matters worse, the two boys are now bound by ancient blood magic--to hurt one is to hurt the other. With the Clave intent on destroying Sebastian, no matter what the cost, Clary and Jace's friends and family must find a weapon that can kill Sebastian without harming Jace. Clary will do anything to save the Jace she knows and loves, the Jace who would never align himself with Sebastian, even if it means she has to align with Sebastian herself. Will Clary and the others be able to find the old Jace and set him free before Sebastian can create his army of dark Shadowhunters?
The Scoop
City of Lost Souls (Mortal Instruments #5)—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Fans of The Mortal Instruments series will not be disappointed by the fifth installment, City of Lost Souls, as it continues to deliver the usual combination of romance, intrigue, and action. Main character Clary is likable, spirited, and independent-minded. Her loyalty to Jace puts her in harm's way but she is determined to fight for what she believes in, in spite of the possible consequences. She continues her romantic relationship with the brainwashed Jace and the two share a few somewhat restrained moments of passion. Kisses are shared by various couples (both gay and straight) and sex is implied. Language is relatively mild (h-ll, b-tch, cr-p, d-mn). This series is best read in order and fans will have to wait until winter of 2014 for the next book. In the meantime, they may want to check out the author's companion series, Infernal Devices.
