Extremely similar to Go Ask Alice in both content, style, and tone, Lucy in the Sky also tells a cautionary tale, through journal entries, of a downward spiral into drug use and addiction. Teens use drugs to excess, including marijuana, alcohol, hash, cocaine, ecstasy, crystal meth, and heroin. Excessive drug and alcohol use leads to a DUI, a stint in rehab, and attendance at twelve-step meetings. Nudity, making out, an incidence of date rape, as well as consensual teen sex all take place, and several characters are openly homosexual. Language is graphic. Engaging and very quick to read, the message behind this story is a valuable one--that of a good girl who made some very poor choices and who sadly dies of a drug overdose following her last journal entry.
