Guys Read: The Sports Edition is a collection of short stories, some fiction, some non-fiction, by a variety of incredibly talented writers, making this a highly readable book. Even the most reluctant reader--if he is a sports fan--will love this book. It is perfect for the boy with a short attention span for reading, but may not appeal to those boys who aren't interested in athletics. This isn't another one of those dumbed down books written for boys who don't like reading, rather these stories are meaningful, sometimes humorous, and there is usually a moral to the story. Some themes in this wholesome read include: sportsmanship, blame and accountability, perseverance, and family dynamics. A little sports history is also thrown into the mix. In one story, a boy mentions the fact that he has two moms, and the family is a loving and supportive one. Guys Read: The Sports Edition is a gem of a read for boys who love sports.
