The Story
Pinch Hit—Book Review

Trevor and Sam were not destined to meet. Trevor is a movie star, with a privileged life, famous parents, and wants for nothing--except for an opportunity to play baseball. Sam lives with his dad, doesn't have much, but does play baseball--excels at it, as a matter of fact. When the two happen to meet, and see how much they look alike, they decide to trade lives for just a little while. Trevor will get the chance to play baseball like a regular kid, and Sam will get to try to help his father's chances of finally selling his screenplay. The two could not be more surprised by what they learn about themselves, and each other.
The Scoop
Pinch Hit—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Fans of Tim Green's sports books won't be disappointed by Pinch Hit. Plenty of exciting baseball action, combined with the excitement of Hollywood and being a movie star, make for an engaging speed read. Told in alternating chapters by main characters Trevor and Sam, readers get a glimpse into both of their lives and perspectives. The boys, who look like twins, and who in fact may actually be related, trade places. Trevor pretends to be Sam and Sam pretends to be Trevor. A surprising mystery at the heart of the story is compelling and the possibility that the boys will be discovered while masquerading as one another adds a suspenseful element. Adoption is an important element to the story, and there are some complicated family dynamics at play. A parent drinks quite a bit each night and has what are implied to be hangovers in the mornings. One boy on the baseball team is unsportsmanlike and bullies others, which does not serve him well in the end. Tween boys who appreciate a good sports read will thoroughly enjoy this story.
