About this book: I Survived Hurricane Katrina, 2005 recounts a boy named Barry's experiences during Hurricane Katrina. During the actual storm, Barry is asleep and with his family. After the storm, he is swept away by a flood, but is unharmed and found by a kind stranger. Barry overcomes his fear of the neighborhood bully's pit bull in order to rescue it from imminent death. The book mentions that many people died in this storm, but Barry and his family are fine, other than the fact that their house is destroyed. They move temporarily (with the dog) to New York while their home is rebuilt.
