The Story
The Enemy—Book Review

One year after the unimaginable disaster, everyone over the age of sixteen is either dead or diseased. The adults that remain are decaying, senseless creatures whose only objective is to feast on the young. Groups of kids that have outsmarted these zombie-like grown-ups have banded together and are fighting for survival. Arran is the leader of the group living in the Waitrose supermarket. So far, they have been able to keep the grown-ups at bay, but something has changed and the grown-ups have started working together to capture kids. When Arran hears about another group of kids that has taken refuge in Buckingham Palace, he decides that they have no choice but to go join them. But how many will survive the perilous expedition through the streets of London? And are the grown-ups really their only enemy?
The Scoop
The Enemy—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

The Enemy is an action-packed read for fans of the horror genre and survival stories. Near-misses and multiple plot-lines add to the suspense. Not excessively gory, the book does feature a cast of boil-infested, flesh-eating, zombie-like adults whose sole purpose is to capture and feed on children. There are even a couple of adults who survived the illness that do the same, treating their quarry like livestock. The main characters have each lost their families and suffered through unspeakable horrors, but are generally a tight-knit group because of it. They work as a team to survive, with clear leaders that guard the group's welfare at all costs. Trouble arises when Arran's group meets up with another group of kids that have conflicting priorities. Fans will be eager to learn what happens in the next installment in the series, The Dead. Language is occasionally strong (h-ll, d-ck, sh-t, pr-ck, b-astard, cr-p, a-s, b-tch).
