The Story
Capture the Flag—Book Review

Anna, Jose, and Henry--all seventh graders who have never met--are snowed in together in a Washington D.C. airport. When they meet and begin to pal around, things get decidedly more interesting. Spying on the mysterious tattooed man and the over-the-top senator with a penchant for Tootsie Rolls proves to be more exciting than they ever could have guessed. And then news comes that the actual famous flag that inspired the song, "The Star-Spangled Banner" has been stolen! The kids have a sneaking suspicion that the culprits are right there in the airport, snowed in with them. And what they find out about this heist as they work to solve the mystery and catch the thieves is more than they bargained for. The three new friends learn that they are connected in a way they never could have imagined. Will they solve the mystery of the missing flag? Or will the thieves get away as soon as the snow melts?
The Scoop
Capture the Flag—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Capture The Flag is a very entertaining and well-written mystery/action/adventure book. With two boys and a girl as main characters and plenty of action, this book will appeal equally to both genders. The characters are smart and often amusing. The kids get themselves into all kinds of conundrums while trying to solve this case, and readers will want to keep keep the pages turning to find out "whodunnit" and what happens next. Capture The Flag is a great action/adventure book that is completely wholesome while still being exciting, and will keep the reader guessing how all the loose ends tie up. This crowd-pleaser would be a fun read-aloud, addition to a classroom library, or just a great book to check out for 3rd-7th graders, depending on his or her reading level.
