The Story
Kill Me Softly—Book Review

Just before her sixteenth birthday, Mirabelle runs away to the one place her god-mothers have forbidden her from going--Beau Rivage, the place her parents' died just three short months after her birth. There she is embraced by new friends and a guy named Felix, who makes her feel like she's never felt before. Mira learns that each of her friends is touched by a fairy tale in some way--cursed by fairies who don't always have a typical fairy tale ending in mind. Her friends swear that Felix's curse is dangerous to her, but they won't tell her why. After Mira discovers her own curse, she struggles against her destiny, determined that love can overcome fate. But will she survive long enough to find out?
The Scoop
Kill Me Softly—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Kill Me Softly is a modern-day romantic fantasy that would appeal to teen girls who were fans of fairy tales as younger readers. Darker than Disney, this story has lots of references to fairy tales in their original form--Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. Teen characters have been cursed to live out the roles of various fairy tale characters, some heroic and others villainous. Teen readers will relate to the underlying theme of the story as Mirabelle fights against her destiny and longs for the freedom to choose her life's path. Teens party a bit and there is some making out. Language is relatively mild and infrequent (a-shole, sh-t, jacka-s, b-tch).
