Kat, Lillia, and Mary all reside on idyllic Jar Island. All three have been wronged in some way and all three want revenge. Betrayal, vicious rumors, and bullying have all played a part in the events that have caused them pain and anguish, and the girls join forces to get back at those who have hurt them. Things go farther than the girls intended and it starts to look like no one is going to come out unscathed.

Burn for Burn is all about vengeance and payback. The three main characters have suffered at the hands of former friends and boys, and their secret revenge plots involve some seriously malicious behavior. Both physically and emotionally harmful in nature, the acts of revenge the girls carry out go way too far, with one character requiring hospitalization. Teens in this story drink and smoke pot as well as cigarettes, sex is referenced, and one girl is date raped. Language is graphic though not overly frequent. An attempted suicide is discussed and low self-esteem and depression seem to affect one character a great deal. Mean girl behavior is commonplace, and popularity and being part of the "in crowd" are important elements. There seems to be a supernatural incident, much like that in Carrie, wherein one character may be able to move or affect physical matter with her mind and emotions. Teen girls looking for an engaging and suspenseful read will enjoy this dark and intense story of revenge, and it appears as though there may be a sequel in the works as Burn for Burn ends abruptly with quite a cliffhanger.
