This book chronicles more of Greg’s hilarious misadventures, this time focusing on getting a date for the big dance. Greg will do anything to achieve this goal, even if it means making some poor choices and getting into all kinds of comedic mischief. The author is great at writing scenes about those embarrassing and awkward moments of adolescence. He writes it in a way that is hilarious, and that even the adult reader will laugh at, remembering how mortifying one's parents could be. Plenty of laugh out loud moments and some crazy surprises make this book a speed read. As with the previous books, there is some potty humor and Greg doesn't always do the right thing. Parents smooch, there is a bully, a drawing of a pair of hand-me-down boys underpants, and talk about having crushes. Mostly, it is just another funny book in this series that is perfect for reluctant and enthusiastic readers, boys and girls alike.
