This thoroughly enjoyable and quick read has plenty of laugh out loud moments. The Boy Recession, told from the alternating points of view of Hunter and Kelly, documents the "lack of boy" situation and how the tables turn at Julius P. Heil High School. Hunter, a cute slacker who was never really noticed before, turns out to be a hot commodity. Kelly, a dependable and "nice" girl, unfortunately realizes her feelings for Hunter after one of the school's queen bees has already swooped in on him. Language is graphic and rather prevalent, and some typical teen behavior such as smoking, drinking and partying take place. One character is referred to as a "stoner" often, and one character has an extremely well-paying job as the one who obtains alcohol and cigarettes for classmates. Chapters are cleverly titled, dialogue is spot-on, and characters are relatable and fun. Older teen girls will thoroughly enjoy this speed read.
