When a witch catches Ryan and his friends stealing coins from the wishing well, she demands payback. As punishment, the witch gives the children strange and unique powers that they must use to grant every wish made at the well.

This book takes a while to get warmed up but is a clever, dark, and spooky read. Well-written and worthwhile, it is not for the faint-hearted. There is some talk about spirituality and our world's changing religions, and a lesson about the abuse of power. Some frightening and mature subject matter make this most appropriate for braver kids, fifth grade and up.
