Twelve-year-old Leo is one of many children in his noisy home, but he longs to step out from behind the shadow of his boisterous Italian family and shine on a real Broadway stage. While preparing for a role in the school play, he stumbles upon a journal his father kept when he was thirteen. Leo learns a lot about the man he hardly knows, and that they have more in common that Leo originally thought.

The major theme of this charming book is self-acceptance and finding your niche (even if you are an actor in a family full of jocks). Leo learns more about his father, who has all but shut down emotionally after a heart attack three years ago, and comes to understand how people change as they get older. This wholesome book celebrates the child who is a dreamer and features a chaotic but supportive family worth reading about.
