The Story
Bras and Broomsticks (Magic in Manhattan #1)—Book Review

Fourteen-year-old Rachel finds out that her younger sister, Miri, is a witch. Rachel has all kinds of ideas about how to use Miri's talents to her advantage, including improving her dance moves, having her father’s second wedding called off so she can go to the Spring Fling, and she making use of a skin clearing potion, a truth spell, and a love spell or two.
The Scoop
Bras and Broomsticks (Magic in Manhattan #1)—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Bras & Broomsticks is fun, age appropriate, and speedy to read. Language is mild (a-s), and while characters do attend two unsupervised parties, underage drinking is only implied. The mother in the story is a smoker. The main character’s parents are divorced and her father is re-marrying, which could be appealing to kids in the same situation. Witchcraft is central to the storyline, but is humorous and fun. The point is ultimately made that magical powers can be harmful, and that interfering with people’s feelings can backfire.

This series is my favorite series, well, next to Harry Potter. It is just a great story, and I laugh out loud in a lot of parts. It is realistic fiction, actually with a lot of fantasy in it. It has a 14 year old girl who has a lot of similarities with normal teens, yet she has a sister with magical powers. This book is the first in the fantastic series.
