The Story
The Lonely Hearts Club—Book Review

Penny has had her heart broken and is done with boys. She swears off dating, forms The Lonely Hearts Club, and is astonished by how many girls feel the same way and join. A multitude of good things arise from the club: camaraderie, empowerment, a wonderful support group, study groups, and unlikely friendships. Problems arise, however, when Penny finds herself having feelings for a boy – does she break the rules of the club, or follow her heart?
The Scoop
The Lonely Hearts Club—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

This quick, amusing read is fun and relatable to anyone who has had their heart broken. The Lonely Hearts Club has a positive girl power message, stressing the importance of friendship and that girlfriends should not be ditched for boyfriends. Language is mild (crap, pr-ck, b-tch) and underage drinking at un-chaperoned parties occurs. Girls discuss loss of virginity and decisions about whether or not to have sex. One girl walks in on two boys kissing at a party. Great discussion material is provided about the importance of friends and making decisions that are true to oneself.
