The Story
Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute (Book 1)—Book Review

Hector and his friends wonder about their school's lunch lady. What does she do in her off hours? Soon they find out that their Lunch Lady is a superhero(ine). She and her sidekick, Betty, serve lunch by day and justice by night, armed with food-related gadgets and weapons (such as a hairnet for catching bad guys). In this first book in the series, the Lunch Lady suspects a substitute teacher is not who he says he is, and the kids are picked on by the class bully. Lunch Lady to the rescue!
The Scoop
Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute (Book 1)—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

This graphic novel has all of the appeal of an old fashioned comic book while being geared to younger tweens. Readers will enjoy Lunch Lady's creative gadgets and her dedication to fighting evil. The humor is wholesome, but even adults will chuckle. Fighting consists of karate chops with fishstick nunchucks, and the worst expletive used is "cauliflower." The kids in this book are smart and eventually gain the courage to stand up to the school bully. It is a very quick read and a great choice for a reluctant young reader.
