The Story
Falling In—Book Review

Isabelle is practically invisible in sixth grade, where she is friendless, lonely, and the days are dull. All that changes when she opens a door and falls into a different world, one where villager children are convinced a witch is out to get then. Isabelle meets her healer grandmother in this alternate universe, gets to know her and realizes that she is the one who is the purported witch. It is up to Isabelle to correct the misunderstanding and set the record straight.
The Scoop
Falling In—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Falling In is a fun and fantastical read. Fairy tale-like and somewhat magical, this story is pretty wholesome. There is a reference to name calling (weirdo, retard, and doofus) and an allusion to children and babies being killed by a wicked witch. One accidental death is discussed, in which a boy is hit by a falling branch. The concept of a changeling is central to the storyline and readers who are unfamiliar with the term may need an explanation. The medicinal properties of various plants and roots is interesting and the concept of healing without aid of modern medicine is discussion-worthy.
