The Story
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler—Book Review

This story follows the adventures of two siblings, ages eleven and nine, who are feeling unappreciated and bored with their lives so they run away from home to go live in the New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. While enjoying their stay at the museum, they find themselves in the middle of a mystery. A statue in the museum is rumored to have been created by Michelangelo, and the kids decide to investigate by interviewing the statue's previous owner.
The Scoop
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

This classic book is a great adventure story that applauds the characters’ smarts, strength, and resourcefulness. Parents will like the art history education that has been cleverly snuck into this page-turner. A more insightful reader will pick up on the story’s real moral: that Claudia really didn’t want to run away, only to be special and different. However, this lesson may be hard to undercover for a younger reader. Parents should also note that these kids are sassy to adults and run away from their home without paying any consequences. Parents may want to discuss with their young readers about the “real life” dangers of running away. Kids may be interested in the fact that this entertaining book has been made into two different movies.
