Tabitha and her best friends wear purity rings as symbols of their pledge to remain virgins until marriage. Now that they are teenagers, however, things are different. Boys are a bigger part of the picture, promises are broken, and are friendships betrayed. The girls realize that faith, promises, and friendships need to be re-evaluated and re-defined.

Very religious and focused on morality, conviction, and remaining chaste, Pure is appropriate for the recommended age. One character does have sex (which is only implied), language is mild, and there is some kissing. Mean girl behavior and betrayal could be good material for discussion about remaining friends with someone who does not share all of your beliefs.
