The Story
Football Champ: A Football Genius Novel—Book Review

In this sequel to Football Genius, twelve-year-old Troy is still playing football and is working for the Atlanta Falcons, helping them win games by telling them what plays their opponents are going to run. When Troy’s role with the Falcons is discovered by a vengeful reporter, things get turned upside down and ugly accusations are made. Will Troy’s own football team’s run for the state championship be compromised as a result? And will Troy be banned from the NFL forever?
The Scoop
Football Champ: A Football Genius Novel—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Young football fans will thoroughly enjoy reading the continuing story of Troy White, as Football Champ picks up right where Football Genius left off. Ethical issues with regard to helping an NFL team win games are brought up and would make interesting discussion material. Steroid use in sports is also central to the storyline, as a main character is accused of having used them for performance enhancing reasons, though he is completely exonerated. One obnoxious and poor example of coaching is balanced by a positive coaching experience. Language is very mild (cr-p) and one adult character displays an obscene finger gesture. A minor incident of juvenile fist fighting takes place. Lots of play-by-play football action will appeal to fans of the sport and a cliffhanger ending sets up a third book in the series.
