A slightly more mature Ramona appears in the wholesome and enjoyable Ramona the Brave. Misunderstandings at school lead to some issues with teachers and classmates, and some name calling takes place (snoop, tattletale, pest, copycat). At one point Ramona tells her family she is so mad she is going to say a “bad word,” though all she musters is “guts.” Those who have a parent returning to work after being home may find comfort in seeing themselves in these characters, and anyone who has dealt with sibling rivalry will find much to relate to. An excellent message is made with regard to being brave and solving problems on your own. Ramona continues to be a spunky, outspoken, and lovable character.
