This second installment in the
Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy takes the story intensity up a notch for these eighteen-year-olds. It is told from four alternating points of view: Sam, Grace, friend Isabel, and new wolf/human, Cole. Sam and Grace are very emotionally connected, and one character who observes it longs for that closeness in his own relationship. Unbeknownst to Grace's inattentive parents, they spend most nights together in her room. They value this intimacy, and sex between them is only vaguely implied. Grace argues with her parents over whether her relationship with Sam is true love or teen lust--a topic some teens may relate to. Sam is distressed by the memory of his parents' attempt to kill him as a child because they didn't understand his change into a werewolf. Cole is a darker character, who has a background of drug abuse and infidelity. He hates his past so much that he contemplates suicide. Cole spends his first few scenes in the book naked (after he has just turned human), and there is a great deal of sexual tension between him and Isabel. Cr-p, b-stard and pr-ck are used, but not frequently.
