The Story
Beautiful Darkness (Beautiful Creatures #2)—Book Review

Continuing the love story of Ethan and Lena, this second in the series finds the two recovering from the aftermath of Lena's sixteenth birthday and the death of her uncle, Macon. Things are not the same for either of them, or between them, as many changes are afoot. Lena is grieving and it would appear that she is choosing darkness over light, as her behavior is not like her at all. Ethan delves deeper into the Caster world as he struggles to help Lena and to find out what is really going on. The strange and extraordinary history of the two families, their connections, and their secrets are uncovered as Lena and Ethan try desperately to figure out what they are and where they belong.
The Scoop
Beautiful Darkness (Beautiful Creatures #2)—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

Beautiful Darkness continues right where Beautiful Creatures left off, and is an exciting gothic love story. Supernatural powers and abilities abound as Seers, Empaths, Casters, Sirens, Incubi, Succubi, and Waywards are all part of this story. A Blood Incubus is introduced in this book, which is much like a vampire, and a main character is turned into one. Suspenseful and action-packed, the story has characters exploring tunnels and different worlds, as well as traveling through time and place. The age-old battle between good and evil/darkness and light is central to the storyline, as is a generations-old love story. Some violence, fighting, and frightening imagery are present, and main characters are often in dangerous, life-threatening situations. Depression is alluded to, as Ethan's father returns home from a stay in a psychiatric hospital. Language is mild (cr-p, scr-w you, h-ll, b-tch, a-s) and some steamy making out takes place. Fans of this very popular series will be thrilled that the ending seems to lead into a third book.
