The Story
Amigas #2: Lights, Camera, Quince!—Book Review

Now that Amigas, Inc. is officially in the party planning business, the gang is gearing up to plan their best event ever -- the quinceanera party for one of their own, Carmen! But there is a twist. Carmen is part Jewish, and her grandmother was disappointed that she didn't have a bat mitzvah at thirteen. Just when the Amigas team fires up to plan a cross-cultural event that will be meaningful to both sides of Carmen's family, another hurdle pops up. They and their new business rival, Simone, are approached by a local TV show to engage in a party planning competition on TV! Can they stay focused on Carmen, with cameras in their faces all the time and Simone's sabotaging antics?
The Scoop
Amigas #2: Lights, Camera, Quince!—Book Review
{spoiler alert}

This second title in the Amigas series continues on the same wholesome tangent as the first, with strong positive messages about heritage and entrepreneurial spirit. The group of three girls and one boy has formed an effective team, which is threatened when the boy and one of the girls attempt to become boyfriend and girlfriend. All of the characters celebrate not only their latino backgrounds but spend much energy figuring out creative ways to embrace Carmen's Jewish heritage during her quinceanera celebration as well. In spite of their delight at being chosen to participate in a TV show, none of the girls appreciates the invasive cameras and they quickly decide that the show is not as glamorous as they thought it would be. Two girls have boyfriends in this book, and they have a brief chat about whether either has kissed with tongues. In a bit of a macho attempt to appear older than he is in front of girls, one character orders an alcoholic beverage, but is quickly shut down because he has no ID.
