Princess Emma isn't exactly your typical princess. She'd rather be down in the swamp than in a ballroom, and she is far from the graceful and poised princess her mother wants her to be. When her parents tell her she is to marry a prince that she has no interest in, she rebels only to get herself into BIG trouble. She is tricked into kissing a frog named Eadric, thinking that it will turn him into a prince. Instead, Princess Emma turns into a frog herself! Emma and Eadric set off a wild adventure in the hope of reversing the spell, meeting many new friends along the way.

This is a modern fairy tale for the tween girl crowd. Though it has a slow start, the story quickly picks up, and girls will likely read it in one sitting. It is humorous, well-written, and imaginative. Girls will relate to Emma's typical tween feelings of self-doubt and awkwardness. Kissing occurs (because how else can one turn into a frog and back again?) several times, and there is an element of romance, though very innocent. The vocabulary in this book might be hard for a reluctant reader. Fans of this book can look forward to reading the next book in the series, Dragon's Breath (Tales of the Frog Princess #2) .
